The Enabler and associated documentation provides you with answers to many technical questions you may have about pump setup. In order to connect to pumps on-site you or your technicians may need to learn some aspects of pumps. This will depend on your relationship to the pump service agents in your country.
Some areas you may need to learn include:
- How to configure the basic settings (such as pump address and mode of operation).
- Where to connect communications wires.
- Diagnosing basic communication problems (like checking LEDs on FDM and Enabler, swapping wires, checking power, using a multimeter).
- What to test for the basic operation of a pump (prices, authorisation, fuelling details, limits; doing test deliveries).
- How to get help from the pump distributor/installer.
- Managing the forecourt to avoid interrupting the site's normal operation.
- Common differences between pump brands and models in your market (display formats, speed of operation, common problems).
- Distinguishing pump problems from system problems.
In particular, you should at an early stage make contact with the pump distributor or maintenance technician for each kind of pump. That person or company will likely know a lot about configuring, connecting and testing the pump.
ITL will help you as much as possible, but we do not know every detail of every model of pump. As you gain experience with equipment in your market, you should learn more and become more confident in dealing with them. Our FAQ pages often include links to manufacturer websites where you may be able to download manuals or get contacts for your local distributor.
The Enabler provides the software protocol support, and the hardware you need, but the final installation and setup are up to you.
